Project Description

The RDIP – Roadmap for the Decarbonization of the Plastics Industry in 2050 consists of developing a sectoral decarbonization roadmap that defines the strategy and relevant actions for decarbonizing the national plastics industry and supports companies, particularly SMEs, in defining their individual roadmaps.

Objectives, Activities, and Expected/Achieved Results

The RDIP aims to leverage the decarbonization of the plastics industry and promote a paradigm shift in the use of resources by training companies in the sector on this topic, thereby implementing the measures of the PNEC 2030 and contributing to accelerating the transition to a carbon-neutral economy. It is a project co-financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), in its Component C11- Decarbonization of Industry, integrated into the Climate Transition Dimension of the PRR, where APIP– Portuguese Association of the Plastics Industry is the promoting entity and responsible for the execution of the project. The proposed approach for the RDIP encompasses four main phases: (i) sector characterization and diagnosis; (ii) GHG emission trajectories and mitigation options; (iii) communication and dissemination of information; and (iv) promotion of actions for discussing results, activation, and training.

The project is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), under the NextGenerationEU instrument, with support from the European Union, contributing to the achievement of national goals for recovery, resilience, and sustainable development.
