On 2 October 2023, NOVA SBE, in Carcavelos, hosted the public presentation session of the Roadmap for the Decarbonisation of the Plastics Industry, a project co-funded by the PRR – Recovery and Resilience Plan, resulting from an initiative of the Portuguese Plastics Industry Association (APIP) in partnership with EY-Parthenon.
This project aims to leverage the decarbonisation of the Portuguese plastics industry, promoting a paradigm shift in resource use and strengthening companies’ capacity-building in this field. Aligned with the targets of PNEC 2030 and RNC 2050, the Roadmap seeks to accelerate the transition to a carbon-neutral economy, contributing decisively to achieving both national and European climate goals.
The session featured remarks from several distinguished speakers, including Nuno Aguiar, Technical Director of APIP; Marta Moreira Marques, Behavioural Science Specialist at the National School of Public Health, NOVA University Lisbon; Jorge Cristino, Sustainability and Climate Change Specialist; and Anabela Vaz Ribeiro, Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact Portugal.
The Roadmap was presented by Hermano Rodrigues, Principal at EY, who outlined the main guidelines and strategic measures for the sector’s decarbonisation. The closing address was delivered by Ana Gouveia, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate, who highlighted the importance of such initiatives in achieving the national carbon-neutrality objectives and in promoting a more sustainable, innovative and competitive industry.
