First Meeting of the Advisory Board Establishes Strategic Foundations for the Sector’s Transition

On 18 January 2024, the first meeting of the Advisory Board of the Roadmap for the Decarbonisation of the Plastics Industry (RDIP) took place at the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIP), in Lisbon. The initiative is promoted by APIP, in partnership with EY-Parthenon, and co-funded by the PRR – Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The session opened with welcome remarks by Cátia Morais, APIP Communication Officer, followed by a presentation of the Roadmap by Hermano Rodrigues, Principal, EY-Parthenon, and Beatriz Varela Pinto, Manager – Climate Change & Sustainability, EY.

The roles and working methodologies of the Advisory Board Committees, as well as the expectations for members’ contributions, were then presented by Jorge Cristino, Sustainability and Climate Change Specialist, and Marta Moreira Marques, Behavioural Science Specialist at the National School of Public Health, NOVA University Lisbon.

The meeting concluded with a discussion on the next steps and planning of the Committees’ upcoming meetings, with contributions from Nuno Aguiar, Technical Director of APIP, and Hermano Rodrigues, Principal, EY-Parthenon.

The RDIP Advisory Board is an independent consultative body composed of renowned national experts representing academia, industry, and public and private entities. Its mission is to monitor, assess and support the implementation of the Roadmap, ensuring credibility, scientific consistency and practical applicability, and fostering an integrated and collaborative approach to the sector’s energy and climate transition. This first meeting marked a strategic milestone in the development of the Roadmap, establishing the foundations for participatory and multidisciplinary governance, and reinforcing the plastics industry’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and carbon neutrality.
