On 21 March 2025, the online workshop “Maturity for Decarbonisation” took place as part of the Roadmap for the Decarbonisation of the Plastics Industry. The main goal was to equip companies with effective tools for assessment and planning, strengthening their readiness to meet the challenges of the energy transition and carbon-emission reduction.
Throughout the session, participants were introduced to the main concepts, metrics and methodologies applicable to decarbonisation diagnosis, as well as the practical application of the self-assessment tool, including detailed evaluation criteria and interpretation of results.
The workshop also helped companies analyse their current positioning and identify opportunities for improvement in energy efficiency and emission mitigation, providing an interactive space for technical discussion and knowledge exchange with organisations that had already implemented the self-assessment tool.
The session featured Joana Martins Mendes, Executive Director of APIP, who delivered the opening and closing remarks, and Nuno Aguiar, Technical Director of APIP, who presented the project.
From EY, contributions came from João Machado Fernandes, Senior Manager – Climate Change and Sustainability Services; Rui Ferreira, Senior Manager; and Eduardo Seduvem, Consultant – Climate Change and Sustainability Services, who led the presentation of the fundamental concepts and self-assessment tool. Participation in this workshop enabled companies to adopt a more structured and strategic approach to decarbonisation, supporting alignment with national and European goals and strengthening the competitiveness and resilience of the sector in the face of the climate transition.
