On 12 May 2025, the Strategy Session – Roadmap for the Decarbonisation of the Plastics Industry (RDIP) took place at the APIP Northern Delegation in Oliveira de Azeméis, in partnership with EY.
The session, aimed at companies in the sector, sought to stimulate discussion and collective construction of decarbonisation scenarios and trajectories, identifying promising technologies and strategic pathways to reduce carbon emissions and enhance industrial competitiveness.
The event opened with remarks by Joana Martins Mendes, Executive Director of APIP, followed by a presentation of the Roadmap by Nuno Aguiar, Technical Director of APIP.
Two main workshops structured the session:
- Workshop #1 – Exploration of Decarbonisation Scenarios, led by Rui Ferreira, Senior Manager – EY-Parthenon (EY Strategy), and João Machado Fernandes, Senior Manager – Climate Change and Sustainability Services, EY, where participants discussed potential future scenarios for the sector’s decarbonisation.
- Workshop #2 – Defining Pathways and Promising Technologies, which focused on identifying technological solutions and implementation strategies to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable and resilient industry.
The session concluded with a summary of key findings and ideas, presented before the closing remarks by Joana Martins Mendes, who highlighted the fundamental role of the RDIP in mobilising the sector for climate action and promoting a low-carbon economy. This Strategy Session marked another decisive step towards achieving the objectives of the Roadmap, reinforcing the sector’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and energy transition in Portugal.
